The warmest ever decade

The past decade was the warmest ever on Earth, a new analysis of global surface temperatures released by NASA showed. The US space agency also found that 2009 was the second-warmest year on record since modern temperature measurements began in 1880.
Last year was only a small fraction of a degree cooler than 2005, the warmest yet, putting 2009 in a virtual tie with the other hottest years, which have all occurred since 1998.

Interactive Maps and advanced GIS systems to the protection of coral reefs

A new system based on the GIS operation and advanced interactive capabilities of Google Earth, as well as on the environmental awareness of multiple research teams and non-govermental organizations is to be launched soon, introducing a complete view of coral reefs and the amazing life that lies within them.
The development of this program aims in raising conscience for the factors labelled as threatening for these ecosystems, namely sea-water threats, developement of coast-side areas, land pollution and overfishing.
This action is yet another example of the great nature of information that satellite data can offer us on our environment and on the actions that we can take for its protection.
